Off-campus lunch for high schoolers is the worst idea EVER.

Oh my god. Shoot me now if this is what lunch time has in store for me for the rest of the school year. Most of the school districts in the vicinty of my office just started school yesterday or today, and all of them, apparently, have off-campus lunch privileges. Yesterday, there were about 40 HS students all crammed into the cafeteria section at Target. They were loud and obnoxious and running all over the place like idiots. Today I went to Jimmy Johns, in the other direction from the office. Different school district, same deal. Except Jimmy Johns is a narrower space, and all these kids had on backpacks...so I almost got taken out by somebody's math, chemistry and history books about 12 times. Seriously, it's the first day of school. Do you really need to carry a full back pack to lunch with you? If this is what the overacheivers look like, I'd hate to see how the less academically motivated kids act in public.

Oh man...I'm getting old. I just hope my kid doesn't act like a moron when he grows up.

Kristi, I know what you mean. At the end of the school year, I had some time to kill before I went to my college class so I stopped by a Starbucks. I was shocked to find a billion high schoolers from the school across the street all jammed into the little Starbucks. Although, I had planned to sit down and maybe read before class, I quickly changed my mind. But I did read in the Chicago Tribune this week (http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-0608220328aug23,0,3469675.story?coll=chi-business-hed) that Starbucks is the new teen hangout.

If Starbuck's in the new teen hangout, then we were WAY ahead of our time, right 'tatious?

Yep, we were trendsetters, we were.

Or maybe it was just that there was no place else to go in our town. Hmmmm ...

It's hard to imagine why teenagers would want to hang out at Starbucks. Teens are so loaded with testosterone or its female equivalent that they do not need the caffeine. When I was a teenager, I was never tired the way I am now.

Maybe that's why teens are so dang unlikeable. Granted, there are a few good ones, but most teens are plainly evil. If you want to be prejudiced against someone, but don't want it to be based on arbitrary characteristics like race, teens are great to hate.
